Crude Oil for Piano Finishes

I've used a product called a "Zenith Almond Stick" on a wooden antique radio I have. It was truly amazing, and completely (even under fairly close examination) hid a couple deep scratches for months before requiring re-application. The particular stick I have is probably from the 1940s-50s, but I mention it because I found last summer that it is _still_ being made.
My impression is that it's got (what else) almond oil in it, but I could be wrong, it may be purely petroleum or paraffin based, but it works great. It's a white stick that comes in a tubular yellow/black/red metal can. You rub it over the scratches, then polish normally.
