Ragtime Player Kit
By Debbie Legg

To Andy and MMDers,

Let me provide some insight to the Ragtime kit. I have installed Ragtime
kits (at customer requests) and have serviced the piano at Busch
Gardens, FL, that has a basic kit installed. I don't know who did
the Busch Gardens installation.

I assume by your description that you will have a GR kit.

Since "O" rolls have many features, consider the following basic
changes/additions to the kit.

  1. Kit will not include any lock and cancels. Install your own for
the glock or it will play continuously. "O" rolls are coded that
this be a lock and cancel function. TB14-on, TB17-off.

  2. Install your own sustain pneumatic/valve. It does not come with
     kit. TB8.

  3. Install your own soft pedal pneumatic/valve. Install a lock and
cancel to operate it. TB9-soft pedal off, TB10-soft pedal on.

  4. Build a mandolin rail and install a lock and cancel for it.
     TB11-mandolin off, TB12-mandolin on.

  5. Use caution when tightening all screws in plastic parts. The plastic
     breaks easily with overtightening.

  6. Provide _extra_ support for the stack. It will bounce incessantly
     when playing if you don't.

  7. If possible do work out different lifters on the abstracts, rather
than the nails provided. The nails cut into the lifter pads on the
pneumatics after about a year of ordinary use. A broader strike
surface on the abstract will solve the problem.

  8. The glock has regular striker pneumatics rather than reiterating
pneumatics. Be aware that the design of the glock, itself, combined
with non-reiterating pneumatics does not give a nice, clear ring.

  9. There is no tracking system. Tracking is controlled by the fact
that the _plastic_ tracker bar is slightly convex. The roll must
be very accurately aligned and adjusted very tightly (using the top
and bottom brakes) for correct tracking and also to avoid arbitrary
     reroll.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions before, during,
or after installation.

Best, Debbie Legg
