Punch Rolls With Stencil Cutter
By Matthew Caulfield

I received this note from a person outside the mechanical music field on
an idea for more-or-less automating the cutting of music rolls. Since I
know nothing about the "stencil cutting" machine he mentions, I am
posting it to MMD to see what you think about the feasibility:

"After seeing the show in Aberdeen, with a variety of different rolls
or books, it occurred to me that one could possibly use a standard
stencil cutter, which is a digital machine with a knife, to cut rolls
direct from music (midi or similar). 14 or 15 inches should be
manageable, and it could be funny to hear these machines cranking out,
say, the latest Madonna tune. ..."
