Sheet Music to Midi Files
By Stephen Kent Goodman

Converting sheet music may in theory seem to be a simple proposition, but
many mistakes were made on the original sheet music in notation, simply
because of a misprint or -- more often than not -- just bad musical
choices/theory. In order to catch and correct these mistakes you need a
good education in music theory to properly convert the sheet music to a
Midi file.

And this doesn't even address the problems with notes out of range,
non-chromatic instruments, etc.; not to mention arranging the piece for a
particular instrument. These are all things that have to be considered
when converting sheet music to a midi file.

Some things to remember...

S. K. Goodman

[ Many sheet music transcriptions of "jazz" performances were published
[ that are very inaccurate. A noteworthy (!) exception is the book of
[ Jelly Roll Morton performances, transcribed by James Dapogny, who is
[ is masterful musician and pianist with keen ears. I recommend it
[ highly to the Morton student. -- Robbie
