Nickel Plating
By Bob and Sonja Lemon

Nancy Fratti asked about nickel plating information.

A few years ago we contacted Alan Baker Company, 160 Sylvester Rd., So.
San Francisco, CA (415-589-5515) about purchasing a minimal amount of
supplies for nickel plating. They supplied us with 1/2 nickel anode and
a few pounds of necessary nickel sulfate.

They also supplied us with a book, Metal Finishing, Guidebook Directory
Issue '84. This book, or the current issue, should give necessary
information for simple nickel plating. Besides these supplies, you will
need a good DC variable power supply and some sort of tank set up for
cleaning and plating. For very small parts, a plastic dish will do fine
<g>. We kept our supplies in Rubbermaid containers with lids.

We got into plating because the commercial platers were over-buffing and
over-plating, with the result that the critical dimensions were changed.
The platers seemed to think that more was better. <g>
