I've been passing the info about telnet (chat) to Paul J. Benner,
owner of FEN, and here is what he said.

I look forward with some excitement to interacting with interested MMD
members in real-time.  The other posting about audio chat also sound
very interesting and I will ask Paul about real-time audio using the
World Group Manager.
