PianoTech Chat Room
By Larry Lobel

Jon,

Can you tell us how to get to the Piano Tech Chat room? I've never done
this before, and didn't understand what an "IRC" is, or what the #pianotech
means.

Thanks.

Larry Lobel

 [ Editor's Note:
 [
[ I'll answer the part that I know. "IRC" means Internet Relay Chat.
[ Its a mechanism by which several people with compatible software can
[ rendezvous via "relay servers". It creates the computer equivalent
[ of a conference telephone call. Everyone connected to conference sees
[ everything that everyone else types. The part "#pianotech" is the
 [ name of the conference.
 [
[ The part thats not clear to me is how many IRC servers there are, and
[ how you know which one to connect to. The name #pianotech, as best
[ I can tell, is like having a phone number without having the country
[ and city codes (area code for us US folks). I'm hoping that someone
[ can provide us with some technical information as to how you pick
[ the IRC server to connect to. There have been some IRC server names
[ mentioned previously, but they are not full domain names. Can
[ someone explain how to derive the correct domain name or IP address
 [ to connect to ?
 [
 [ Jody
