"Gate City March" on Music Roll
By Jim Canavan

Just heard a wonderful, fun march tune on the local public radio station:
"Gate City March" by A. F. Welden (sp?). Apparently it was written for
the same festival in Atlanta that Sousa wrote "King Cotton." It's one of
those fun medley pieces -- at one point, the band is playing "Dixie" and
"Swannee River" simultaneously! Does anyone know if it's ever made an
appearance on piano roll? I can imagine it sounding great in one of
those heavily-orchestrated versions.

P.S.: Next Sunday, 28 Sept., is the Phonograph (and mechanical music)
Show in Bound Brook NJ. Anyone else from here going? Maybe we should
put our e-mail addresses on our badges? <G>
