Value of my Music Box
By Keith Merchant

Hi All, Just a question: Where do you get the prices for music boxes?

Since no one likes the price guides (I understand they are not accurate,
and I agree they are not), who can I write to, to get an accurate price?

For example, I just bought a Model 150 mahogany, serpentine case, horn is
missing, every thing else is original. It has the banjo attachment, one
damper needs attention. Other than that the box is in good shape.

It has been in the same family for 35 years, in the front room. I
offered top dollar for it. Now you all write to me and tell me the
price you think I should have paid for this box.

Bye for now

 [ Editor's note:
 [
[ Keith, it seems like this question is asked several times each month,
[ and is usually patiently answered by one or more of our members.
[ I suspect that a qualified appraiser or dealer will need much more
[ information than you have given above.
 [
[ I'll re-print for you the fine article by Nancy Fratti, and -- instead
[ of writing -- I suggest that you telephone so that you can answer her
 [ questions in detail.
 [
[ Better yet, you could discuss sending your new music box to her for an
[ appraisal of its current value, and the cost to restore it for you.
