I am writing to you because I need some assistance.  I own a Melo Pean
made by the H. B. Horton & Co.  It was manufactured in Akron, Ohio,
patented 1849.  I was told by the professional who restored the bellows
and reeds, that it was a pump piano, as it contains a sound board.  The
veneer is in fair condition, but overall I would consider the Melo Pean
to be in good condition.

The ivory keys (5-1/2 octaves) are in excellent condition, with no
yellowing.  The technician, who restored the action, found it listed in
his piano reference guide, but the information was limited to the dates
of manufacture (1849 - 1854?) and the original selling price of $600.

We would be interested in learning more about this piece and the
company that manufactured it.  We would also like to know the value
before we invest any more money for restoration.  I can e-mail photo's
to you to help in identification if you desire.  If you can help or
point me in the correct direction I would appreciate it.
