Build Your Own Xylophone
By Hal Davis

For Carl Kehret, you might look around your neighborhood. I had a
mulberry tree next to my driveway that we took down and I found it to
make good xylophone material. In fact, I used it to make two of them,
and though that was more than sixteen years ago, they were still playing
well a couple of years ago the last time I saw them.

Making a Xylophone is not a difficult task. It helps to have a
power table saw but it's not absolutely necessary. It can be done
with a hand saw and a hand drill. You'd be surprised how easy it is
once you start on it.

Making a xylophone by hand enabled me to tune it somewhat lower
than standard pitch so it was in tune with the 1907 Autopiano that
I installed it in.
