I was going through a book store when I saw one of those all-purpose
antique identification and price guide books.  There are several in
print.  They tell the value of almost every antique to be found.  I went
to the "piano" section and saw an Aeolian push-up listed for $4,000 and
some Duo-Arts listed in the $4,000-$6,000 range.  Sorry I don't have the
specifics of what models.  The funny thing was that they suggest nothing
about condition and they only have a variety of pianos like a sample of
all pianos one may find.  The list started with a square Steinway from
the 1800's and a lot of other regular piano prices listed.  Has anyone
ever checked these books for accuracy?  Most suburbanites think their
dusty Gulbransen player is from a few years before the Civil War broke
out and that it's worth at least $10,000.
