MIDI Programmer Wanted
By Will Dahlgren

I am looking for a programmer to create some custom MIDI file analysis
programs. The program(s) need to read MIDI files and create printed
analysis of note timing.

Anyone interested should already be able to do the following:

1. Read MIDI files (in Win 95) into their programming environment
(probably Visual Basic with MIDI file read plug-ins).
2. Do some computations on event timing.
3. Print an analysis (in Win 95) based on user selected parameters.

If anyone is interested in this project, please e-mail me at:

[ I do analysis like this (using the Macintosh) to create histograms of
[ MIDI velocity, chord strike deviation, and so on. An un-edited hand-
[ played MIDI performance shows a nice Gaussian distribution of
[ velocities (and so does a well-coded reproducing piano roll), but
[ manual editing of velocities is often quite apparent as clusters
 [ at certain velocities.
 [
[ Interesting: a crude Duo-Art emulation shows only the 16 discrete
[ levels; a skillful emulation which incorporates smooth ramps for the
[ accordion pneumatics looks, and sounds, like a good live performance!
 [
[ Tell us about your project, Will ! -- Robbie
