'Hexentanze' played by Teresa Carreno
By Ray Fairfield

Robbie, Regarding Teresa Carreno's performance in Hexentanze, I was not
impressed with the roll. But this impression is more one of not liking
the music than criticizing the performance.

You might find the story of how I found my piano and rolls interesting.

I bought my 5' 8" Weber Duo-Art from Mechanical Music in Darien, in
about 1983. I had seen it in one of their catalogs, and stopped by on
a Sunday, on a business trip to look at it. I never buy anything sight
unseen.

One of the principals met me there and opened up the store. I also
purchased, at the same time, a collection of about 170 Duo-Art rolls,
which I was told had originally come from the Haddie Green estate in
Connecticut, I think. These rolls were 80% classical, and virtually
all of them in perfect shape, except the labels on the boxes had faded
badly. The rolls looked like they had never even been played, with the
petrified rubber bands still on the rolls.
