Teresa Carreno Project
By Elian Degen

Hi Robbie. First of all, thank you very much for your involvement in
this project. I am writing to let you know that we are very grateful
for your help, and I should address everybody in the list who stepped
in, to thank them.

You sent me a letter asking me to assist Mr. Sans, and I did; I also took
an interest in the project, and I am in this project also as from today
02/27/1998. I read a mail today :

>[ Editor's note:
>[
>[ !Qien sabes! I haven't heard a thing since the first letter from
>[ Juan Francisco Sans. I'll send him a fax message this weekend
>[ asking "Que pasos?"

I am sending my apologies, but we are having a great deal of work,
and it's been difficult. I am sure that Mr. Sans has the same problem
or worse.

As for :

> No, no, no. I mean, how the hell are these guys in Venezuela
> going to collect the right rolls and the right pianos, and record
> the music. I'm not one for sending my rolls to strangers. Are
> they going to travel to remote locations to record the rolls where
> the proper piano exists?

We are considering the possibility of doing exactly that: to go where
the piano is and make the recording.

As Wayne Stahnke said:

> ... since the money at Fundacion Teresa Carreno is probably
> limited, perhaps an arrangement could be made with Denis Condon
> to license material from "The Condon Collection" of 32 CDs.

and also we have to make plans, concerning where to go, where we can
find the best collections, etc.

I have several questions for the list. The Idea is a commemorative CD
or CD's, with a brochure on Teresa Carreno, with the best possible
quality, and as interpreted by her. That is why we are looking for
well-recorded rolls.

I am a piano tuner and technician, and I am interested in some historic
data regarding the pitch used between 1905 and 1915 and the temperament
used ?

During this weekend I am going to review everything and contact you
with more specific questions. I rushed to send you this note due to
your quote:

>[ !Qien sabes! I haven't heard a thing since the first letter from
>[ Juan Francisco Sans. I'll send him a fax message this weekend ...

Also any e-mail I receive I'll send it to the foundation also.

 [ Editor's note:
 [
[ I think it's fortunate that Elian can assist both MMD and the
[ Teresa Carreno Foundation in Caracas. When he joined MMD in
[ July 1997 he told Jody:
 [
[ "I have been a piano tuner and technician for over 25 years,
[ and after learning with my father, I went to England to study
[ at the London College of Furniture in London, and I came back
 [ to Venezuela."
 [
[ It's good to hear from you, Elian. Please write again soon.
[ Do you live nearby Caracas?
