New Movement for Rusty Reuge
By Olin Tillotson

Replying to the request of Dean Moore for information about a
replacement movement for a 'rusty Reuge', I'd like to say that many
years ago (1972 to be precise) I had an antique box which had once
housed something unknown but of dimensions suitable for a musical
movement.

My wife had always appreciated Schubert's Trout Quintet opus 114,
especially the fourth movement, second variation with a lovely
obbligato. So, taking the bull by the horns, I wrote to Reuge and asked
if they could put it onto a musical movement for me. They replied that
they already had such a movement in a 2.50 (two tunes, fifty teeth in
the comb)movement with the arrangement I wished and the price was fifty
Swiss francs.

Of course, I hastened to reply in the affirmative and in a few weeks I
had the movement. Regrettably, it was not the fourth movement, but for
the money, which was at the time really negligible, I couldn't
complain. I mounted it into the box and presented it to my wife for
her birthday. She was very pleased.

Many years later, I found a new Reuge box at pier 39 (?) in San
Francisco with a 3-72 movement with the Trout in three variations
playing superlatively ... and to clinch the deal, they were having a
sale. The latter movement is 6 1/2"w x 2 5/8"d x 1 1/4"h. I could
recommend it to you without equivocation.

At the time of my initial purchase from Reuge there were agents in
North America but I still was able to order directly from the factory
at considerable savings. Perhaps that may still be the case. The
address is Reuge Ste Croix Suisse CH-1450. The fax number of Stefan A.
Muller, President, is ++4124614368.

Good luck
Olin Tillotson
