Replicating Galleries
By Ricky Diggs

This is Ricky Diggs with Custom Woodworking. Thank you for the great
introduction into MMD on 98-2-26. Since then I have spoken to many MMD
members requesting that I replicate galleries for their various
machines, which I am looking forward to doing. (I have reproduced many
galleries in the past. )

One that I 'm really excited to do is a Wooten desk, owned by Bruce
Miller. (He sent me photos of the original desk; his is missing the
complete gallery.)

The gallery itself is a work of art. Being a furniture designer and
builder myself, I understand why most galleries are attached on top
with only dowels: that's for easy delivery and shipping, so they don't
get broken. But because they do separate, that is the first part to
get lost. I guess delivery men in the old days had bad memories, and
always forgot the galleries. Or when it got cold outside that was the
first thing that went in the fireplace.

If anybody has any better theory or facts please e-mail me and let me
know. Whatever the reason may be, I'm just glad to be able to restore
these incredibly magnificent machines back to original condition.

Sincerely,
Ricky Diggs
