All the expertise demonstrated in the discussion of Delrin leads me
to ask if anyone has come up with a better material than the leather
washer used in the variable speed drive on the Wurlitzer roll
mechanism.

Mine wears out too fast and produces a lot of leather "dust" which gets
into the valves.  I make them from shoe sole leather on the advice of
none other than Mike Kitner -- may he enjoy a rapid and complete
recovery.

I have a piece of Teflon, but suppose that it is too hard and too
slippery for the application.  Authenticity is great, but I would be
happy to make a small compromise in this case.  Maybe Neoprene about
the consistency of an automobile tire?
