Meaning of 'Clock'
By Jeffrey Borinsky

Robbie, please don't worry too much about the translation of Glocken.
Remember that the English word "clock" originally meant an instrument
that struck bells to mark the passage of time and had no dial
indicator.

Jeffrey Borinsky

[ "Eight Bells and all's well !" The 7 kg dictionary notes
[ that 'clock' is related to the Danish 'klokke' and Dutch
[ 'klok'. Maybe, long ago, the Danes said 'klokkenspiel' !
 [ Thanks, Jeffrey. -- Robbie
