Pedal Electric Marque Ampico
By Jeffrey Borinsky

On Saturday I saw a Marque Ampico upright that is being restored.
I am potentially interested in buying it and would like to find out
more before I proceed.

The piano is a Marque (e-acute) Ampico "A", serial number 23786. The
most unusual feature is that it is a pedal electric, in the sense of a
pedal electric Duo-Art. Some questions.

- What does "Marque" mean? (I hope that this is not a stupid question)
- How rare is a pedal electric Ampico? I thought that all Ampicos were
electric only. Obviously I am wrong.
- What are the problems with this kind of instrument?

It is being offered for GBP6000 (approx. US $9600), fully restored and
re-polished except that it is not being re-strung. It is supplied with
an original Ampico roll cabinet and about 100 Ampico rolls. It has had
one owner since new. Does this sound like a reasonable deal?

Thanks in advance for any advice and comments.
