After looking for a couple years for an old roll cabinet, reasonably
priced, and not finding one, I finally settled on a barrister's
bookcase from K-Mart, made by O'Sullivan.

Each shelf has a glass-fronted door on it.  It comes in a kit and
is under $100; it occasionally goes on sale for about $69, I believe.
It's vinyl coated particle board, but it is very well made -- it looks
very much like real wood, even up close, and quite sturdy when put
together.

My only problem was it was too shallow to hold my rolls.  I simply
added a 1.5" wooden spacer to the back before I put the back on.
I stained the pine wood spacer to match the factory finish on the rest
of the bookcase (which claimed to be walnut).  By bringing a shelf into
the hardware store, I was able to match the wood stain so well that you
cannot tell where the joint is (and the totally different wood) unless
you get right up to it.  I surprised myself with it.

I would guess it will hold approximately 300+ 88 note piano rolls, not
counting what you can pile on the top once it's full!  :-)
