This posting prompts me to add a few words.  I had planned on writing
something about "The Rag Time Ephemeralist," but wanted to wait until
I had completed reading it.

It is a remarkable, fascinating volume and has my highest endorsement.
First, it has the appearance of a publication from the period, done
with taste and humor.  That, alone, gives enjoyment.

Even more important is the content.  Highlights include the Joplin
fragment transcribed by Reggie Robinson & Chris Ware's discussion
of it; Galen Wilkes's article on Joe Lamb's days in the 1920s-30s,
writing for local minstrel shows (including some previously unknown
Lamb music); the incredible number of diverse photos from the era which
are just thrown in for no apparent reason, but I'm glad they are there;
Chauvin's death certificate and the music for one of his songs; Dennis
Pash's article on Hogan; loads of photos relating to string ragtime
(I suppose Dennis had a hand in that, too).

This is a *major* publication in ragtime.
