Value of Gem Roller Organ
By Scott Currier

I received an email from one MMDer the same day I saw Ed Copeland's
posting asking about Gem Roller Organ prices.

Here is the answer I sent to both MMDers. The main question I'm
answering below regards what I paid for the organ (on the Piano/Organ
page) at http://www.worm-hole.net/members/scurrier

"I paid $175 for the Organ (with 6 rollers), but had to do a lot
of talking to get it down to that price. It had been priced at $375,
but the dealer did not know much about it and I gladly pointed out
the flaws in the machine. He broke even on the deal and we both
walked away happy.

"I generally see Gem Roller Organs in the $400-$600 range, barely
playing because of hardened pneumatic cloth. I also see the Concert
Roller Organs in the $600-$1000 range from time to time. The Concert
is basically the Gem in an enclosed wooden case.

"Considering the day's interests in Gem Roller Organs, I guess
I should dust off the Roller Organ and pay some attention to it ;-)"

One other point I failed to mention. The number of rollers included
with the organ definitely affects the value.
