Piano Moving Horror Story
By Julian Dyer

The Piano Moving Tragedy thread reminds me of a story told by Peter
Davis, who's had countless player pianos through his hands over the
years.

He sold a grand Pianola, and the buyers said they would arrange
for movers to collect it. They duly arrived, and said to Peter,
"You can't fit this through the door. It's too wide."

Peter told them that it was conventional to put grands on their side
to move them. This was news to these consummate professionals! They
got the piano through the door, with no slide or trolly, just on the
ground and dead-lifting it. As soon as they were outside they righted
it and carried it to the back of their van.

Here they proceeded to put the piano down on the road, without its legs
on, while they opened up their van. Bits of stack were poking out the
sides. It was also raining heavily at the time, and they didn't have
any covering either.

At this point Peter decided he had urgent business somewhere (anywhere)
a long long way away, and left them at it!
