New Wind-Up Phonograph Motors by Thorens
By Tim Rickman

Hello MMD'ers. I was shopping over the new year holidays and found
some brand new NOS (New Old Stock) 78-rpm wind-up phonograph motors.
The units are Swiss made by Thorens, the number: NO 144\F stamped on
the chassis. The Thorens logo is a cross with an anchor inside.

These are all-steel frame with steel and brass gears, 3-ball governor
with adjustable speed, brass bearings a 12-minute double-spring wind-up
unit with crank shaft (no crank), and a spindle that is driven by a
worm gear from the governor. There are three tapped screw mounting
holes on the spindle side. Looks like a #10 or #12 machine screw,
or metric equivalent size machine screw hole.

I bought 10 of these units. There were about 40 left. If anyone wants
one, I'll sell them for $50.00 ea. plus the cost of shipping in the US.
This would probably be about $5.00 or so. The unit weighs four pounds
each.

Newspaper packing inside the box is foreign language newspaper dated
Mittwoch 20, Februar 1963 Swiss???? I have taken some pictures of
the units and have sent them along with this message.

I don't know if there is a "wind up record player group" digest
like the MMD, if so, could someone cross post this message to them?

Thanks.

Tim Rickman
