Ampico Artist Victor Wittgenstein
By Paul West

Horst Mohr wondered about Victor Wittgenstein, who was listed as the
performer of the Saint-Saens Gm concerto on Ampico roll 53717. There
is a brief mention of him in Aaron Copland's autobiography.

Victor Wittgenstein was Copland's piano teacher in New York City for a
year or so, around 1917-1918. Copland wrote, "I spent two winters as
his student, hoping to gain some insight into the performance of a more
contemporary repertoire, without any memorable results."

A web biography of Aaron Copland describes Victor Wittgenstein as being
"in the conservative European mold". See
