Hurdy-Gurdy in the Movies
By Karl Ellison

In "Captain Courageous" -- the 1930's version with Freddie Bartholomew
and Spencer Tracy -- Spencer portrays a Gloucester fisherman, and
throughout the film he plays a hurdy-gurdy (the player-violin type),
singing "Don't cry little fishy, don't cry don't cry". There are many
good close shots of the instrument.

[ This is the ancient instrument which Christian Greinacher wrote
 [ about in MMDIgests 990217 & 990218. -- Robbie
