Andy Taylor mentions that when he records his piano with a camcorder he
doesn't hear the expression in the resultant recording.

Most camcorders made for consumer use have an automatic gain control
that sets the recording volume.  When the piano is playing loudly the
recording gain is automatically set at a lower level and when the piano
is playing softer the circuitry increases the recording gain.
Therefore, the expression is "leveled out" by the constantly varying
gain.  This is similar to the compression circuits used by many radio
stations, although those usually vary the gain within preset limits.

Unfortunately, I don't have a solution to his problem, but I'm sure
some of our other MMD members probably do.
