I compared the two versions of "The Farmer Took Another Load Away!"
by merging them into a new file, with one version displaced by
a half step pitch.  (Yes, it sounds very out-of-tune!)  Here's what
I found.

a.  The A-roll version plays for 96 measures, but the QRS 88-note roll
plays for 152 measures.  At metronome MM = 172 beats per minute this
is 2:12 vs. 3:31 (min:sec) respectively.

b.  A few long chords are intentionally shortened in the A-roll
version, apparently to improve the rhythmic feeling.

c.  There are many long portions which match _exactly_ , punch for
punch.

d.  The few small discrepancies between versions are typically that
the note comes on late by one or two punches.

I think that this is convincing evidence that the master roll
of QRS 3226 was the basis for the Automatic A-roll version.  Because
the QRS roll is credited to J. Lawrence Cook, therefore we may conclude
that the A-roll version should also be credited to Cook.  The small
discrepancies are probably reader errors at the perforator.

Andy Taylor said that the arrangement sounded like Lee Sims; this
immediately raises the question, "Did Lee Sims produce rolls credited
to J. Lawrence Cook?"  For that matter, did the name 'Lee Sims' appear
on songs known to be arranged by Cook?
