Introduction
By Steven Phelps

Hi, my name is Steven Phelps and I am writing on my wife's (Leslie
Anne) PC. My computer skills are very limited.

I have an old Baldwin piano, #17917. It is an upright player that
sadly has had its mechanism removed. I am hoping to identify what was
in it and find a replacement. Some of the members of this list are
assisting me now in that endeavor.

I recently returned from Santa Cruz CA. While there I had the chance
to see and hear an 1894 Ruth and Sohn carousel player. Wow! I took
some video of it in action and it is great fun to play back. I wonder
if anyone has some better recordings of carousel music? That experi-
ence and a relative's Pianola player have inspired me to get going on
this Baldwin!

I live in Vero Beach FL. I have traveled to the Lightner museum
several times to hear some of the great mechanical music there. They
play them everyday but I am sorry I do not have the names of them.
One is a punch board orchestrion, an organ grinder type, and several
others of various designs representing early mechanical music.

It's a very small museum and anyone coming to Florida should see it
at St. Augustine. I believe the machines are played twice each day,
at 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM.

I would appreciate hearing from other Baldwin owners, and anyone else
that cares, too! Thank you for this list!
