To charge for information would be like the public library charging
to check out books.  Advice saves time, but that's only the beginning.
Information alone is not enough to equip someone to rebuild a mech-
anical music instrument.  It also takes a great deal of talent and
mechanical ability, not to mention practice.  The great thing about
automatic music is that you can never learn enough and you always get
better.

I can understand firms like Hupfeld guarding their designs, but this
was during the time when companies were extremely good and there was
extreme competition.  Nowadays it is a challenge enough without the
advantages of the production line.  Good shortcuts are a welcome sight
and better information should lead to better quality in the end.
