The discussion about moving a pipe organ reminded me of a humorous
story of a friend who moved a small 2/3 church organ across town for
his church.  Since he and friends were sponsoring (in every way) the
installation of this organ in their church they decided to move the
instrument themselves.  A friends pickup truck was used for the console
and wind chests.  The remaining parts were moved by personal cars.

My friend had a small station wagon.  The back of the car was filled
with blower, generator and a multitude of smaller pipes.  Moving the
larger 9-foot Bourdons (16' pitch) became a more complicated issue,
however.  It was decided to strap the three largest pipes to the top
of the car and carefully drive to the new destination.

Everything went relatively smoothly but there was a rather soulful
sound coming from the bass pipes as he drove down the highway.

(Don't try this at home, boys and girls.  This man thinks he's
a professional!)
