Web Site for National Carousel Association
By Meta Brown

It was great to see Bette Largent's message about the National Carousel
Association site. I've recently begun working with Terry Smythe on the
AMICA site and I share Bette's interest in introducing children to
mechanical music, carousels and all those other great things that the
folks on MMD seek to preserve. I'd love to share ideas and look for
ways we can cooperate to foster the love of mechanical music and all
things old and musical.

I know that many of our fellow hobbyists have experience demonstrating
their instruments for children. Folks, please share those experiences
with us. Tell us what worked and what didn't.

Here are some thoughts that I have for the AMICA site -- the floor is
open for comment.

I'd like a design that boldly invites (entices?) newcomers to learn
about mechanical music, with more introductory information. The home
page would have links to topics like "What's Mechanical Music?",
"Resources for Educators", "Music and Pictures".

It would have nice, bold headings for Kids, Teens, and for (gasp)
modern mechanical music. How about features on young people preserving
old pianos, carousels, and the like? Lesson plans and resource
materials for teachers?
