Mission Style and Craftsman Style Pianos
By Larry Mayo

From time to time I have seen player pianos for sale that are touted
as having "Mission Style" cases. Other than they are made of darkened
oak, they seem to have little similarity of style. Gustav Stickley's
drawings of craftsman (or mission) interiors show only an interesting
type of piano that is actually built into the wall as if it were part
of the paneling. To my knowledge, Stickley's company never built any
free-standing pianos.

First, has anyone encountered any pianos that were clearly built in the
craftsman style? If so, what did they look like?

Second, has anyone ever seen or serviced any of the craftsman style
pianos, or player pianos, that were actually built into the wall of the
house? I can't imagine that there are many still around.
