Repairing German Singing Bird
By Reg Smith

Brian Chesters asked about repair of singing bird cages with the
"condom type" bellows. I have repaired perhaps a couple dozen of these,
and can attest they are without a doubt the most difficult to repair of
all singing bird cages.

To answer Brian, no, you can _not_ use a condom to repair them. There
are, however, proper diaphragms made to fit these plastic bellows,
available in the USA from S. LaRose, Inc., in Greensboro, North
Carolina. They are a perfect fit.

The trick is, however, to split the plastic bellows where it has been
glued together in the factory, without breaking it. This is very, very
difficult to accomplish. Even when you are lucky enough to get them
apart without breakage, the other problem is the tiny flap valves,
which tend to malfunction.

My advice: try to avoid bird cages with this type bellows.
