Audio Demo of Duo-Art Round Valve Performance
By Craig Brougher

Several people have commented and expressed doubts about the overall
performance of round valve replacements in Duo-Arts with cross valves.
I understand their concerns, so I decided to post an example of the
repetition and dynamics of round valves in a 1923 Steinway Duo-Art on
my web page for a short while.

I do not restore Duo-Arts with the old cross valves still in them by
the way, so any Duo-Art that has left my shop, at least in the last
20 years has round valve replacements, guaranteed.

Because it is a very large RealPlayer file, it may be removed in a
week or so, but for your enjoyment, you can play this as streaming
audio or download it as a zip file. You know it as the last of the
2nd movement and complete 3rd movement of Saint Saen's 2nd Piano
Concerto. For those who know this piece, it ought to tell the story
about round valve replacements in Duo-Arts.

Another interesting feature of this performance is, it is played
through the PowerRoll, courtesy of Spencer Chase's latest CD.
I think you will like it. The address is:
