Stripping the Piano Finish
By Julian Brook

What is the best way to strip the old finish on a piano? On my
radios and TVs I generally use Formby's stripper or one of the generic
or less expensive copies. I have also use paste strippers.

In my experience the paste stripper is faster, but it raises the nap
of the wood and removes the old patina as well. The Formby's leaves
the patina (which is nice) and does not raise the nap, but it is much
slower going and uses a mountain of steel wool.

Thanks. Julian Brook

PS: By the way, if one has two subjects to discuss, is it protocol
to make two messages or combine them in one?

[ It's better to write only one topic per email message. Then
[ the indices to the MMD Archives will show the different topics.
[ Thanks for asking. -- Robbie
