Lead Tubing in Hupfeld Orchestrions
By Bernt Damm

Does anyone know what the coils of lead tubing used in Hupfeld
orchestrions are for? I have seen them over the years on various
pictures and they are about 2" to 3" long with about two or three
layers of tubing curled up. Is it some form of delay line perhaps?

One is showing in the picture "Einzelne Bauteile [individual
prefabricated parts]" on page 50 in "Das Mechanische Musikinstrument
Nr. 77" from GSMe.V. This has been puzzling me for years and maybe
someone can shed some light on this mystery for me.

Thanks and regards,
