Custom Woodworking by Ricky Diggs
By Albert de Boer

I'd seen the name of Ricky Diggs several times on MMD and had read
very positive comments regarding his skills of reproducing in wood
"almost everything".

I was contemplating making a special designed piano bench for my
recently acquired Chickering baby grand with Ampico A, which would
serve to house all electronics and laptop computer to operate the
Broadmoore PowerRoll, with an absolute minimum of cables running
everywhere and allow operation while sitting on the bench.

The case of the piano had been described to me as "semi-classical"
and was missing a bench of like design. So I set out to design a
bench in the style of the piano and at the same time accomplish the
before mentioned. I could handle all the common woodworking tasks
but not the turning of the special designed legs.

I contacted Ricky and sent him a work drawing of my needs. I was
quoted a price and off we went.

Last week I received the finished product from Ricky and it is almost
needless to say that they far exceeded my expectations. In the process
I changed the design and type of wood a few times, before he got
started of course, and found him to be very understanding and gave
me advice as well. Those of you in need of some special reproductions
or custom designed items would do well to contact him. His work is
excellent and his fees are reasonable.
