Antique Store Prices
By Karl Ellison

During the AMICA 2000 convention in Sacramento I stopped into at
an antique store and looked over their six piano rolls: pedestrian
Imperial and 1950's QRS in poor condition, marked $9/roll.

I jokingly asked the owner, who knew I was there for the convention,
"How do you sleep at night, charging these prices for this?"

He told me in a low voice, "That's for people who don't know what
the heck they're looking at; those who just want an 'antique'.
That's nothing for you".

Indeed, the rolls at every antique store I pop into, to see what
they have, are in similar price and condition. I always ask,
"Would you take rolls on consignment," and I never receive a
positive response. Definitely the wrong place to buy rolls.
