Brand Systems Fishing Pole Tracking Mechanism
By Bjorn Isebaert

Hi there, Last week I bought my first mechanical music instrument:
a Wurlitzer upright player piano. Now I suspect, after reading some
messages in the MMD Archives, the tracker mechanism of my instrument
doesn't work properly.

The tracking mechanism has a brass plate with "Brand Systems" on it.
It's the system with a fishing pole and two sensors as described by
Bob and Sonja Lemon in 970908 MMDigest: "The fishing pole tracker
mechanism apparently was patented by the Brand Tracker Co. and most
[versions] used two paper sensors."

The screw to stop the upward travelling of the fishing pole was
already installed. Now every time I play a role, the fishing line
rolls up until the fishing pole gets no further, causing the upper
spool to shift too much to the left.

I now solved it a little by removing the line, but since I want my
player piano to be as original as possible, I'd like to know how it
should work. Can anyone give me more information? (I already
ordered Art Reblitz' book about player piano servicing: if there
is information about this kind of tracker systems in it, just let
me know).

Thanks,

Bjorn Isebaert
