Mills Violano Virtuoso Scale Variations
By Marc Sachnoff

Happy holiday to all fellow MMD'ers, While celebrating the holiday
with our local (Southern California) AMICA Chapter, we had the
opportunity to enjoy Frank and Shirley Nix's fine collection
instruments and music boxes.

Frank has recently become enamored with the Violano (aren't we all ;-)
and has obtained several of them. One is a fine home model which I was
surprised to discover is capable of considerably greater expression
than other models I've heard. Frank was a little tied up (with 40
guests) and couldn't get into much detail. Can anyone explain how this
expression is coded?

Also: are Violano rolls usable on all machines or did they change
formats at some time when the expression capabilities were reduced?
I'd be interested in learning more about these amazing machines.

Best regards,
Marc Sachnoff
