Coloring Black Wood Screws
By Roger Hughes

Hey Everyone, If you can't find those original black screws you need
to finish up your restoration, here's a solution.

W.W. Grainger Co. still stocks round head slotted wood screws in a
nickel finish in various lengths. Go to your nearest shooting supply
(gun) shop and get a bottle of Brownell's "OXPHO-BLUE" gun barrel
bluing creme. It costs around $10.00 for 4 ounces but it will do
hundreds of screws.

Just wire-brush your new or old hardware, follow the simple instructions,
and smear a little of the bluing solution on them with a cotton ball.
In 30 seconds you have beautiful blackened screw heads. It won't
scratch or rub off, and leaves a nice semi-glossy finish. Wish I had
known this years ago.

Regards,
Roger Hughes - Texas
