Scandinavian Folk Music on Piano Rolls
By Larry Norman

Well, I want to say that the MMD is a great place to share information,
sales, wants, and a lot of great knowledge. I have been looking
for Scandinavian rolls of folk dances and other tunes for years, in
particular Norwegian rolls, but only found classical composers, or
just a few Swedish rolls.

I have to report that another MMD subscriber has provided me with
my first Norwegian roll. Many thanks! It is QRS 41907, titled
"In Norway, a selection of Norwegian songs and dances", copyright 1914.
I shall play it for my next Norwegian festival. I even recognized some
of the songs. I am not sure if any other Norwegian rolls were made or
not.

I also heard from others and have a box for a Swedish medley, made by
Aeolian, roll number 301518. Unfortunately the roll that was in the
box was some other classical composition. So somewhere out there,
unless it got destroyed over the years, there may be a Swedish roll by
that number. I want to thank those who sent me the two rolls, and
others who asked questions or supplied information. Perhaps I should
invite them all over for a feast of lutefisk someday?

Anyway if anyone else has some Scandinavian rolls they would like to
part with, I am still looking for more. So thanks again

Musically yours
Larry Norman
