Annual Player Piano Production Overseas
By John A. Tuttle

Hi All, I'm hoping some of the members who live overseas will respond
to this question: Was player piano production, in your part of the
world, adversely effected by the crash of the US stock market in 1929?

thank you,

John A. Tuttle

[ In Harvey Roehl's book "Player Piano Treasury" is given some data
[ from the U.S. Department of Commerce. Player piano production in
 [ the U.S. peaked in 1923 with 205,556 units produced. In 1929
[ it was 36,504 and in 1935 only 418 players were made. The likely
[ cause of the decline was the electric phonograph, introduced around
[ 1926. Until then, only the piano could provide sound loud enough
[ for dancing at a rollicking party! -- Robbie
