Albert W. Ketelbey Compositions on LP Recording
By Paul Johnson

Just last weekend I picked up an LP of Albert Ketelbey's compositions,
performed (in stereo) by the New Symphony Orchestra of London, conducted
by Robert Sharples.

The liner notes say, "From Ketelbey's life story there stand out two
factors which seem to form a part of the history of every great composer
of light music: he revealed his talent at an early age and, in the
course of a very full musical training, he showed aptitude for a wide
range of composition. ...

He also studied 'cello, clarinet, oboe and horn in the course of his
work at Trinity College, London.

Fans of light music like Ketelbey's may want to check out the Robert
Farnon Society of Britain. They are champions of the genre known as
British Light Music and cover the whole subject of light music with
a regular publication and website at
http://www.rfsoc.freeserve.co.uk/Index.htm

I believe Ronald Corp and the New London Symphony may have also
recently issued a CD containing "In A Persian Market".
