Dutch Organ Grinder's Cap
By Bob Conant

In 010312 MMDigest Burl Upduke asked, "Does anyone know where I might
obtain a cap such as worn by the traditional Dutch organ grinders?"

Burl, Looking at a lot of old pictures of Dutch organ grinders, I'm
not sure there was a "typical" hat as they seemed to wear whatever was
in fashion. That being said, I did find a hat that is similar to the
Greek fisherman's hat but with taller, stiffer sides, at The Dutch
Village in Holland, Michigan, in their main gift shop. You could try
them to see what they have.

I also bought a German fisherman's hat in Waldkirch a couple years ago
(on Bopp's Bumbling Bruder Tour) in a hat shop. These are more common
in northern Germany because of the border on the sea, but a specialty
hat shop might have something. If you buy overseas, remember that hat
sizes in Europe are measured by head circumference in millimeters.

Cheers,
Bob Conant
