"Memories of Frankie Carle" on Web Radio
By David Lewis

On Saturday May 19, 2001 WMKV-FM will present "Memories of Frankie
Carle", an historical overview of the life and work of the late
pianist, composer and bandleader (1903-2001). This will feature Carle
as band pianist with the orchestras of Edwin J. McEnelley, Mal Hallett,
Bobby Hackett and Horace Heidt, in addition to solo recordings made
from 1938-55 and with his own orchestra (1944-60).

The show was written and produced by Morden Grant and Uncle Dave Lewis,
and is narrated by Mr. Grant. While purists have often dismissed
Frankie Carle as a sort of cornball 'cocktail' pianist, listeners who
love jazz piano may be surprised at how much good jazz there is in the
show; some of Carle's solos swing like mad. Folks who enjoy popular
music of the 1930s and 40s will be rewarded with some unexpected
treats.

Cincinnati-based listeners may tune in to WMKV at 89.3 FM. To listen
via web radio, tune into our streaming website at www.wmkvfm.org or
