Hello to all, This is in response to Paul Murphy's letter of the 17th
instant.  I have done some piano tuning and still tune pipe organs for
a firm in Dallas, Texas.  I have done some tuning by ear (temperament
setting) without any electronic aid but now I use a Korg tuner to set
temperament.

I am able to maintain my pianos but do not tune pianos for others.
The main reason for this is that just tuning a piano is not always
enough.  Sometimes there are small repairs to be done and, in certain
instances, I am not prepared for this so it is unfair for me to do this
for a living at this time.

In the realm of organ tuning (pipe organ only), this I am prepared
for, having done this for about 35 years.  I have worked on actions of
all kinds and done light voicing; all things pertaining to pipe organs.

I am sure that others will also tell you that tuning itself will not
be enough to make a business of, but you can learn all things.  Perhaps
you can find someone in your area that will teach you.  In some
colleges there are courses in this sort of thing.  Good Luck.
