Wurlitzer Caliola Case Construction
By Tom Wilson

Last night I disassembled the Wurlitzer Caliola which is undergoing
restoration. The interior pieces are all original, including the
supply bellows: it has newspaper on it dated early 1929.

The delaminating case sides are made of 5-ply 3/4-inch plywood. Paint
is red, with silver crackle finish on the red.

Did Wurlitzer use plywood on case construction in 1929? If so, was it
veneered with quarter-sawn white oak? There was a lot of this used in
case construction of furniture in the 1920's and 30's.
